Internet Broadcaster Requirements
for Live Webcasting

  • Acquire the music and be responsible for copyright and royalty-related compliance (click on this link to see our page on Digital Rights Compliance for Internet Broadcasting)
  • Provide a dedicated PC with a Windows operating system - most current generation PCs will do:
    • Pentium III or newer
    • 600 MHz or faster (866 MHz for video)
    • 128 MB of RAM memory or more (256 MB for video)
    • Ethernet network access card (this might be built into the system rather than on a separate card)
    • Windows 2000 or Windows XP
  • A minimum available uplink speed of 45 kbps (kilobits per second) for audio or 125 kbps for video on a high speed always-on Internet connection is required - these connections are commonly available as:
    • cable modem service from your cable-TV operator
    • DSL service from your phone provider (note that uplink speeds are commonly limited to 128 kbps -- ask your vendor)
    • T-1 service from your phone provider (normal T1 uplink speed is 1,544 kbps, but you may have a partial T1 with slower speeds -- if in doubt, ask your vendor)
  • Install remote access software (PCAnywhere for $50 or TightVNC at no cost) (this gives us the ability to remotely access your computer for setup and maintenance purposes)
  • Install anti-virus software
  • Install DJ music scheduling software (such as our DRS2006 Lite for $70 or DRS2006 Pro for $600)
  • Put a Listen Live button on your web site -- we give you the code for the button - its very easy to set up
  • You will need encoding/streaming software, either iRadio247 proprietary, or Microsoft Windows, Winamp,
  • You do not need a static IP address

"Rebuffering", which is a common problem, simply means that you are having trouble receiving the stream because of a high level of Internet traffic, your Internet connection quality/speed, or simply the server load - again, try later. Similarly, "Net Congestion" also refers to the level of Internet traffic, and neither of these are any cause for concern - simply try again later.
Some of the stations may not operate a 24-hour audio feed - some close down at night or operate only for a few hours on certain days, or perhaps only on weekdays. If you are persistently unable to connect with the audio from a station, please let me know so I can investigate and hopefully correct the problem. If clicking on an audio feed doesn't start your RealAudio, Windows Media Player, Nullsoft Winamp Player, Mac Amp, iTunes Player,.
